Like most veteran’s organizations the Military Order of the Purple Heart has its own uniform cap. This distinctive purple military style cap is the basic item of the Military Order of the Purple Heart uniform.
We encourage members to wear their uniform caps at chapter meetings, when performing duties as a chapter member and at other patriotic events.
On a personal note; as a Marine it was drilled into me to follow the naval tradition of not saluting unless wearing a full uniform including head cover.
Regardless of what our national legislature says, I do not salute unless I am in uniform and covered. Like many veterans I can no longer meet the strict grooming standards of the military services, even if I could squeeze into my old uniform.
By wearing a cap of a veteran’s organization I am considered as being in full uniform, by that organization, and can salute the national colors and officers as appropriate.
Chapter caps are described as being purple with white piping and white lettering, with a George Washington emblem sewn on it. The chapter number and the words “Life Member” may be added with white letters as appropriate. See the photograph.
You can order your cap through the chapter or directly from Keystone Uniform Cap
